Arsenal Start Contract Negotiations with Leandro Trossard as Challenging Times Set In
Arsenal have reportedly started talking to extend the contract of one of Mikel Arteta's most trusted attackers, Leandro Trossard. Despite criticism for a rather insipid start to the season, Trossard is very much a key cog in the vision of Arteta at the Emirates.
How Arsenal Are Currently Doing and Role of Trossard
The Gunners went into the international break in a bit of a rut, as they did not manage to win any of their last four Premier League games - drawing two and losing two. One of the main problems was that the team simply could not create chances, especially without Martin Odegaard. The star men like Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, and Trossard were not creating or scoring goals.
Trossard has been a focal point of praise and criticism this season since he joined Arsenal from Brighton in January 2023. Now 29, approaching his 30th birthday, the performances have not matched his prior impact, with just two goals in 15 appearances, with one assist.
However, this cannot take away from his general contribution to Arsenal: in 83 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions, the Belgian attacker has contributed 33 goals-20 scored and 13 assists-in participation-an average of one contribution every 127 minutes, which speaks volumes of his importance to Arteta's plan.
Arsenal Set to Reward Trossard with New Contract
Despite recent concerns over his form, Arsenal are ready to reward Trossard with a lucrative new contract. According to Mail Plus, negotiations are taking place and the winger will see his pay significantly bumped up.
Trossard currently takes home £90,000 a week on his present deal until 2026. That number would reportedly surge into six figures if he signs the proposed terms, reflective of his value to the club.
Curiously, Arsenal last summer reportedly turned down an inquiry from the Saudi Pro League for Trossard. Such a move, again, shows the faith of the club in his ability to deliver during important games.
Other Arsenal News: Scouting New Talent and Future Striker Targets
This is apart from planning for the future as recent scouting reports have linked Arsenal to Villarreal's assist king Alex Baena, who had topped La Liga last season with 14 assists. Reports claim the Spaniard is on the radar of Arsenal, whose €60 million release clause could be a very worthy investment for the Gunners.
In addition, Arsenal has targeted Newcastle's Alexander Isak as their ideal striker for 2025 and beyond. The Swedish international can boast clinical finishing and versatility. He is considered a long-term solution to lead Arsenal's attacking line. However, any deal is expected to cost upwards of £100 million.
What Lies Ahead for Arsenal?
While Arsenal battles inconsistency in their form, the need to strengthen the squad persists. Trossard's future can be secured with a better contract that would bring stability and assure Arteta of one of his most trusted assets.
With the January transfer window looming, Arsenal's fans are in for continued activity by the Gunners as they fight to reclaim a spot among England's elite and pursue success both domestically and internationally.
