Man United Forward's Future
Manchester United pulled off a statement signing in the summer transfer window as they signed Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna for £36 million. But only a few months into his tenure at Old Trafford, there are already question marks over the future of the Dutch striker.
Zirkzee's signing came after United had decided to part ways with Anthony Martial and the ups and downs of Rasmus Højlund's first season at Manchester United. The club was in dire need of a reliable striker, and Zirkzee was signed for that position after his impressive stint at Bologna, which saw the team qualify for the Champions League. While he has contributed well in Italy, he has not yet shown the prolific signs at United that may raise several question marks over his future.
Juventus Interest in Zirkzee?
Early in November, it was reported in Italy that Juventus might be interested in taking Zirkzee to Turin, in case their main striker Dusan Vlahovic did not extend his contract. Speculations went up another notch with Juventus manager Thiago Motta, having previously coached the attacker while at Bologna, something which could have also made a reunion at Juve possible.
However, this latest update from transfer insider Gianluca Di Marzio has ended any speculation over Zirkzee's immediate future. Speaking to SoccerNews in the Netherlands, Di Marzio confirmed there is "no chance" of Zirkzee leaving Manchester United for Juventus during the upcoming January transfer window.
What Does This Mean for Zirkzee?
While Zirkzee's immediate future looks secure at United, his lack of consistent form and the club's need for a reliable forward mean he can never be that far away from extra competition. With speculation building on January transfer activity, not to mention the search for an elite striker likely to continue into next summer, the pressure will remain on Zirkzee to perform if he is to continue playing such an integral part for Manchester United.
For now, though, the Dutchman can rest assured that any move to Juventus is off the table in the short term, at least according to the most recent reports.
