Transfer News LIVE
With the January transfer window drawing near, top clubs in the Premier League are already making their moves to strengthen their squads. It may be a bit dicey in the transfer market during the winter window, but that has not stopped teams from seeking reinforcements. Manchester United, looking to improve under manager Ruben Amorim, and Arsenal, eyeing their next potential gem, are two of the most active clubs.
Manchester United Eye Championship Goalkeeper
Manchester United are reportedly turning their focus to the Championship in order to find a new backup goalkeeper. Leeds United's red-hot form man Illan Meslier is reportedly in the radar of Red Devils scout Tony Coton. Frenchman Meslier, 24, has made 22 league appearances for Leeds this season and is in the team in an automatic promotion spot. His performances have not gone unnoticed, and Manchester United sees him as a potential challenger to their current goalkeeper, Andre Onana.
With Altay Bayindir not quite convincing as the No. 2 goalkeeper, Manchester United may be looking for an upgrade, and Meslier may be the solution. Along with Meslier, Botafogo goalkeeper John also features on the list of targets for United as they seek a solid backup option.
Arsenal Targeting Nico Paz
Arsenal are reportedly eyeing another exciting talent: Nico Paz of Argentina. Currently, the 20-year-old attacking midfielder plays for Serie A side Como, where he has been impressive, contributing two goals and three assists this season. Arsenal scouts have kept a close eye on Paz, and given their history with Real Madrid midfielder Martin Ødegaard, they might just be tempted to move in for the youngster.
The future of Paz remains a bit complicated since, although he is technically owned by Como, he has a buy-back clause with Real Madrid which will most probably be executed at the end of this campaign. That might, in turn, spark off a transfer saga in the summer as Arsenal and Manchester United were reportedly gunning for Paz's signature. Inter Milan are also keeping tabs on the Argentine as his stock continues to rise.
What's Next for Man Utd and Arsenal?
As the transfer window draws near, it is important that Manchester United and Arsenal firm up any glaring positions that need reinforcement; one in between the sticks, whereas the latter needs another surefire creative force in the middle. These moves shall be decisive as both outfits seek to hold onto top spots for the remainder of the term in pursuit of glory during the second half of this season.
