Arsenal Transfer News Recap
With the transfer window heating up in January, all eyes are on who Arsenal might bring in to reinforce their squad, most notably in attack. Although the weekend may have been frustrating for Mikel Arteta's side after dropping points against Brighton, there's plenty to keep tabs on regarding Arsenal's transfer business. Here's a look at the latest transfer updates, including the Gunners' ongoing pursuit of new attackers and key player developments.
Frustration After Brighton Draw
It was not quite the weekend that was expected from Arsenal. A tepid performance against Brighton saw them drop points and, with Liverpool subsequently dropping points themselves, it could have seen the gap at the top of the Premier League reduced to four points. The Gunners were further frustrated by a controversial penalty being given against them by referee Antony Taylor.
But Arteta's men have little time to celebrate as attention quickly shifts to an EFL Cup semi-final with Newcastle, among other upcoming challenges. Meanwhile, the transfer window continues to hog the headlines as Arsenal seeks reinforcements, especially in the wake of Bukayo Saka's injury.
Attackers in Demand for Arsenal
Until now, more players have moved out of Arsenal than in, but with Saka out of action, Arteta has been rumored to bring in more attackers. A line of Alexander Isak, Raphinha, and Matheus Cunha have been linked with various moves to the Emirates this window, with those names most likely to add depth and quality in the final third for the Gunners.
Isak's Loyalty to Newcastle
Arsenal have also been linked with Newcastle United's fine talent Alexander Isak, though recent comments from the striker suggested he isn't going to be leaving St. James' Park anytime soon. In an interview with Prime Video Sweden, Isak spoke about how much he enjoys playing in the Premier League and that Newcastle's fan base is "extra special." Based on this, it doesn't seem like he will be pushing to leave Newcastle, which in essence, makes a January transfer unlikely.
The interest of Arsenal in Sporting CP's Viktor Gyokeres has seen wide reports in the last few months, but the Swedish striker has made his mind up on his future. Reports indicate that Gyokeres has told his agent that he would like to remain at Sporting until the summer. Both Arsenal and Manchester United are said to be interested in the forward, but it would appear any transfer may need to wait until the close of the season as Gyokeres plans to see out his promise to Sporting for now.
Vlahovic Linked with Arsenal
Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic is another player who has been said to be on the radar of Arsenal. CaughtOffside claims Vlahovic is increasingly likely to quit Juventus, with the club set to meet in February to discuss his future. It's expected that Juventus will set an asking price of around €65 million (£53.9m) for the striker, who has failed to sign a new deal. Arsenal, along with Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, are said to be interested in securing his services. However, it remains to be seen if he will actually make the move this month or this summer.
Charles Sagoe Jr Returns to Arsenal
In other news, Charles Sagoe Jr. has returned to Arsenal after the first half of the season out on loan at Shrewsbury Town. The midfielder, 20, played 18 times for the League One side but rarely impressed, not scoring or providing an assist. Shrewsbury Town has confirmed his return, wishing him the best for the future.
Celtic's Interest in Kieran Tierney
Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney has been at the middle of transfer news, with Celtic reportedly edging closer to a deal for the Scottish international. However, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers expressed his frustration in chants from fans demanding Tierney's return, using words such as disrespectful to current players like Greg Taylor. The speculation doesn't stop here, though.
Liverpool in the Hunt for Paixao
Arsenal is not the only Premier League club seeking reinforcement. Liverpool reportedly contests the signature of Feyenoord winger Igor Paixao with the Gunners. The 24-year-old Brazilian has done well in the Netherlands, a fact that has also attracted the attention of other top clubs like Tottenham, West Ham, and Roma.
Stay Tuned for More Updates
With each passing day, the noise of the January transfer window drums on, and it is not a surprise when more tales emerge given that Arteta seeks reinforcements, majorly up front. It remains to be seen who comes into Emirates Stadium over the next fortnight. The move that would involve Vlahovic, Isak, or another target-its pursuit will most definitely be one hell of a story.
