Financial Squeeze on Manchester United Due to FFP Rules
Manchester United are at a crossroads as they attempt to balance the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), which have already forced several Premier League clubs to offload players that they would have preferred to keep. Why Manchester United Need to Sell Players
Each Premier League spot is worth approximately £3 million, and failing to qualify for European football next season would be a significant hit to United's finances. While they are competing in the Europa League this season, failing to appear in the Champions League would reduce the club's revenues.
Yet United can still secure a Champions League spot if they win the Europa League final in Bilbao this May. To rely on that chance, however, is a gamble, and so prudent sales in the summer transfer window are even more vital.
Four Players Manchester United Could Sell
To satisfy FFP regulations and fund potential summer signings, Manchester United have several options to sell.
1. Jadon Sancho
The former Borussia Dortmund winger has failed to recapture his best form at United and is currently on loan at Dortmund. With question marks over Ten Hag's future, Sancho's future at Old Trafford looks bleak, and he is a strong candidate for a permanent transfer.
2. Casemiro
The Brazilian midfielder has been a dominant force in midfield but has struggled with fitness and consistency this season. Due to his high market value and wages, his sale would free up a lot of funds.
3. Anthony Martial
Martial has struggled with injuries and inconsistency, which has made him dispensable in United's long-term plans. His contract is also running out, and offloading him now might allow the club to recover some value.
4. Harry Maguire
Despite Maguire experiencing a mini resurgence, United might still be able to cash in on the England international as they have defensive overhaul plans in the pipeline. A transfer away might suit both the player and the club in financial terms.
