Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has sustained a hamstring injury, the club said on Sunday, after he was an early exit in their thrilling 4-3 victory over Celta Vigo.
Lewandowski, who was marking his 100th LaLiga appearance in the match, was forced off late on after clutching his left leg. The match was decided in dramatic fashion, with Barcelona winning it in the 98th minute through a penalty kick.
The victory temporarily extended Barça's lead over arch-rivals Real Madrid to seven points, with Los Blancos welcoming Athletic Bilbao later on Sunday.
Medical tests conducted on Sunday have shown that first-team player Robert Lewandowski has suffered an injury to the semitendinosus muscle in his left thigh," the club stated. "His availability will be subject to the evolution of the injury.".
While the club have not set a date for his comeback, Spanish media reports suggest that the 36-year-old striker could be out for up to three weeks. That makes him doubtful for next weekend's Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid and is a concern ahead of Barcelona's Champions League semi-final clash with Inter Milan.
Lewandowski, LaLiga's top scorer this season with 25 goals—three more than Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappé—has been pivotal for Barcelona this season, scoring 40 goals in all competitions.
