Liverpool's Position on Quansah's Future
Liverpool has made it official that Jarell Quansah will not be sold this summer, despite the young center-back dropping out of favor at Arne Slot's Liverpool. While Quansah enjoyed a consistent run of outings at the end of the 2023-24 season, featuring in 10 of the final 15 games for the club, he has struggled to have game time under Kjetil Rekdal this term. Losing his place to Ibrahima Konaté just 45 minutes into Slot's opening competitive match at the reins, Quansah has featured a mere twice in the Premier League since.
Club's Long-Term Commitment to Quansah
Despite the limited appearances, Liverpool is still retaining the 22-year-old defender. According to The Athletic, the Reds have no intention of selling Quansah, who signed a long-term contract with the club in October 2023. Liverpool still considers him a future key player, and they are convinced that he will be an important player in the future too.
Contrasting Views from Fabrizio Romano
This Liverpool transfer is in contrast to recent claims by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who made a suggestion that Quansah could be open to a transfer in search of more playing time. Romano stated:
"I would keep an eye on Jarell Quansah because he's very talented and very good, but then again, sometimes you just want to play. With Van Dijk having signed a new contract, Konaté still in the club, and interest in Dean Huijsen, there is plenty of competition in that role."
Romano's comments show that Quansah's lack of regular game minutes will prompt him to reconsider his future at the club, but Liverpool's will is firm in keeping him part of their plans.
Slot's Confidence in Quansah's Potential
Despite Quansah's dismal start to the season, Arne Slot has been believing in the defender's capacity to regain his place in the starting eleven. Following Quansah's impressive second-half performance as a substitute against Wolves in February, Slot praised the young player for his determination:
Slot said. "He struggled when he was subbed out at Ipswich, and the first couple of games after that were tough.". But over the past two or three months, he's played on the training pitch and in games that he's come back to his best.
A Bright Future at Liverpool
With Virgil van Dijk signing a contract extension and the fight for center-back positions remaining fierce, Liverpool's stance regarding Quansah is evident: they don't want to sell him. The club considers the young defender to be an essential piece of their long-term plans, and they remain certain that Quansah will continue developing into a long-term player for the future.
