Latest football transfer news
The 2025 summer transfer window has opened early, on June 1, according to TalkSPORT. The early start has already seen some top-level transfers in Europe, including Manchester United's £62.3m signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves.
Why the Early Start?
As opposed to previous seasons where the window opened towards the end of June, this year's timing was due to scheduling around the FIFA Club World Cup, which begins later this month. As such, there will be a conditional break in transfer business from June 10 to June 16, allowing room for clubs to navigate FIFA's international tournament schedules.
This new mid-window break is unprecedented and forces the clubs to act quickly in the first few days if they want to complete early deals and pre-season transfers.
Cunha Deal a Sign of Things to Come
One of the biggest early deals has been Manchester United sealing the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves. United's haste shows how top clubs are reacting to the new window period, trying to get target signings under their belts before the mid-June lockout or before prices escalate.
Other European clubs have followed suit, making earlier moves ahead of both the tournament break and a frenetic transfer market.
What Clubs Need to Know
During the June 10–16 break, clubs can keep negotiating and sealing deals with players and agents, but official registrations will be suspended temporarily under FIFA rules to avoid conflict with preparations for the Club World Cup.
The entire summer window remains open until the usual August 31 deadline, so clubs have time after the break to complete their last signings.
A Fast and Furious Start
With other clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool also being rumored with massive signings, this early jump is setting the stage for a speedy and perhaps record-breaking transfer summer.
Football fans can expect more signings to be confirmed, more rumors, and tactical moves before mid-June—and still more chaos when the window opens again.
