Texas A&M Adds Nebraska Transfer Tight End Nate Boerkircher to Aggies' Portal Haul
Not looking to stop now, Texas A&M football has added Nebraska junior Nate Boerkircher via the transfer portal as a means of continuing to build out depth at tight end. With five years of experience under his belt, Boerkircher is the second tight end addition for the Aggies this offseason, joining Auburn sophomore Micah Riley.
A Strong Career at Nebraska
Boerkircher started his football career by walking on to the Nebraska program in 2020. During his time, he has appeared in 39 games and has earned 17 starts. His playing has seen him record 19 catches for 219 yards, and a notable 19-yard touchdown in a 38-17 victory over North Dakota in 2022.
This past season, Boerkircher had a career-best game, catching six passes for 102 yards as the Cornhuskers ended the year 6-6 and reached their first bowl game since 2016.
Academic Achievements
In addition to his achievements on the field, Boerkircher excels in the classroom. He has been recognized as a four-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and to the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll six times, showing that he takes both facets of his career seriously.
The Tight End Room for the Aggies
At 6-foot-5, 250 pounds, Boerkircher brings massive size and experience to a Texas A&M tight end room that already features returning sophomores Theo Melin Öhrström and Donovan Green. The latter has been a sure-handed target this season, hauling in 10 catches for 184 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Green missed the 2023 season with a torn ACL but was coming off a nice freshman year in which he had 22 catches for 233 yards and two touchdowns in 2022.
Boerkircher brings depth and experience to the position, helping to give the Aggies a much more rounded and competitive tight end room as they head into the 2024 season.
Conclusion
Boerkircher's addition should toughen up the Texas A&M offense and really add much more depth to the tight end room. This transfer portal has built momentum in College Station, but Boerkircher possesses the combination of experience and size, and even in an excellent academic standing, to say the least.
