Manchester United will add to their squad next summer transfer window, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reporting that they are the favourite to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha.
The Brazilian striker, whose deal has an earlier season signing on with a £62.5 million release condition, is of significant interest to clubs given his quality and football intellect. The condition provides Cunha the freedom to transfer clubs should a club reach the figure.
Although Manchester United have not yet finalized the payment deal with Wolves, they plan to activate the clause. Cunha himself desires to make a move to United whether or not Wolves beat Manchester United in Wednesday's Europa League final, possibly earning Ruben Amorim's club a Champions League place next season.
Several Premier League clubs, including Newcastle United and Arsenal, have also been interested in Cunha. But Brazil reports say Manchester United is near agreement, with the club making available slightly more than the release fee in extras.
While speaking on his YouTube channel in a broadcast, Romano explained:
"Negotiating a deal always takes time — negotiating the wages, talking with the agent, and sorting out the payment terms with Wolves. Manchester United are working hard at it, having very optimistic talks with Cunha's agents."
He continued:
"Ruben Amorim highly rates Cunha, and Cunha is aware of that. The last piece of the jigsaw is negotiating the terms of the contract. For all the other clubs enquiring, Manchester United have remained the clear leaders right through."*
Romano stressed that Cunha's wish to join United is regardless of their Champions League qualification or success in Europa League, saying:
- "This is not a Champions League qualification or Europa League success transfer. Cunha wants to make the switch. Now it's simply a matter of getting the paperwork right.".
Cunha's football IQ and ability to fit in are a great addition to Manchester United as they seek to make their squad stronger and more vibrant for the next season.
