Manchester United are stepping up their search for a new striker this summer, and one player whose name has become a realistic option is Liam Delap. In the newest installment of Market Madness, renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano told GIVEMESPORT that Delap is currently weighing up options from interested clubs, including Manchester United, ahead of a potential move before the 2025/26 season.
Old Trafford Striker Hunt Continues
After the disappointing 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final, Manchester United have missed out on Champions League football — a decision that is expected to play a significant role in their recruitment drive. The Red Devils have placed the capture of an experienced No.9 high on their agenda this summer, with Liam Delap emerging as an elite target.
Delap, 22, is reportedly available for £30 million after a release clause was triggered by Ipswich Town's relegation from the Premier League. While the club has floundered, Delap impressed with his performances, showing physicality, speed, and an eye for goal — attributes United lack desperately up front.
Familiar Faces and Fierce Competition
Something in United's favor is that they have Jason Wilcox, the technical director of the club, who was at Manchester City with Delap. This might be pivotal in convincing the striker to come to Old Trafford.
But United are not alone. Chelsea have also expressed interest in the English forward, seeking to add attacking options after a season to forget. With a number of interested parties, Delap is in no hurry to decide which club has the most appealing long-term project and pathway.
Liam Delap is hearing clubs' offers and determining what's the best opportunity," Romano continued. "So I don't know how soon it will be (a decision on his future), but for sure, the player is already preparing himself for his transfer, because there is interest from Man United."
⚽ United's Striker Shortlist: More Than Just Delap
While Delap is a legitimate target, he is not the only name on Manchester United's list. Sporting CP prodigy Viktor Gyökeres, who has been a revelation in Europe this season and worked under Ruben Amorim — now United manager — is also in the frame. The Swedish striker finished the season as Europe's top scorer and has been heavily associated with a Premier League move.
Romano confirmed that United are considering all avenues:
"He's not the sole striker on the list — there are other options. So for Man United, I would leave the situation open, because United have a few possibilities, also depending on what happens with Champions League football or not."
What Delap Could Bring to the Red Devils
Delap is young, has Premier League experience, and space to grow — all qualities that would match United's goals to build a young, hungry squad. He may not be a signature name like Gyökeres, but his profile matches a club wanting to build players and challenge for long-term success.
With pre-season on the horizon, and Erik ten Hag (or his possible successor) in need of reinforcements, United fans will be watching closely as the club's search for a striker intensifies. Delap may make his decision in the coming weeks — and with a £30m release clause, it might not take long to wrap up once he has decided where to go.
